At some point, we’ve all said the words: “I’m fine.” But behind that mask is a heart that’s shattered, a mind racing with anxiety, or a soul silently screaming for help.
We often convince ourselves that pretending is easier. That if we smile enough, serve enough, pray enough—even while hiding our pain—everything will eventually “work itself out.” But the truth is: God can’t heal what we won’t admit is broken.
God’s healing power is available to us, but it starts with surrender. Psalm 34:18 reminds us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Notice—He comes close to the brokenhearted, not those pretending to be whole.
When we acknowledge our pain, whether it’s emotional wounds, spiritual struggles, or past trauma, we invite God into the areas we’ve locked Him out of. That’s where Christian healing and restoration begin.
Pretending everything is okay is exhausting. It builds walls between us and God, and between us and others. More importantly, it delays the healing we so desperately need.
Jesus didn’t come for those who seem righteous. He came for the broken, the sick, the wounded (Mark 2:17). That includes you. That includes the parts of you you’ve been trying to hide.
Spiritual freedom doesn’t come by ignoring your pain. It comes by bringing it into the light of God’s presence. When you stop covering it, God starts uncovering His grace.
Isaiah 61:1 declares, “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives…”—but you must first admit you’re captive.
Faith and emotional healing require courage. Not perfection. Not performance. Just honesty.
God loves the real you—brokenness, doubts, pain and all. You don’t have to pretend anymore. You don’t have to carry it alone.
So stop hiding what hurts. Face it so God can fix it. Reveal it so He can restore it.
The spiritual freedom you’ve been praying for begins when you stop pretending and start trusting.
